When we invaded Afghanistan, I knew that something in all those news stories was terribly familiar.













A mountainous high-altitude place, filled with granite peaks and deadly deserts.

A history of religious extremists that settled and survived for ages in its fertile valleys.

A deep hostility to outsiders.

The widespread practice of Polygamy.

A history of being invaded by the United States.

Then it hit me. Of course, it's my ancestral home!
